We are always hunting for the very best examples for our museum. Pictured here are 8 very rare experimental military visor helmets. They were produced in limited quantities between WWI and WWII. Military equipment is not what we normally collect but these have just the right look. • Pictured above are all French helmets. The center helmet is a French Adrian style from 1918. • The helmets below are American and English. Top row-left is a celebrated Model 8 Steel Helmet This experimental helmet features a visor to protect the wearer’s face almost completely. The manufacture of this helmet, was undertaken by Ford Motor Company in November 1918. About 1,300 helmets of this model were produced.

I can’t say if there were more experimental military helmets in WWI or WWII. There’s little information out there on these. The only clue is the design of helmet they built around.

What a great site! Being a helmet collector I was Googleling “rare helmets” and stumbled on your site. I wish I had seen this a few days ago so I could have gone to your museum. I live in Rockland County so, you pretty close.
Anyhow, let me explore your site some more.

Actually, Steel Pots by Chris Armold has a section in his book on Experimental US Helmets 1917-1936.

Wow, I am super enamored with that French Adrian Style helmet. It looks like it came right out of a movie. I’ve been a collector of helmets for a few years now and I’m always amazed that there is more to discover and more to learn about visors and helmets. Great site..so glad I found it.

Has anyone come across what is known in M-1 collecting circles as the “Lee Miller M-1”? Lee Miller was a famous photographer and also combat photographer. There are images of her, as well as other combat photographers, wearing a M-1 helmet that had been adapted to have the front move up in order that the person can shoot photos or film without the helmet rim interfering with the camera.

The helmet Lee Miller is wearing is a T-14 Photographer helmet. Not many are made and only a few a knew over the World. So a very rare and super hard to find helmet. The liner is a standard M-1 liner with a cut-out.
